In â€Å"Don’t Call Me a Hot Tamale,† Cofer gets criticized for the way dressed. When she dresses like her mother and grandmother was taught to wear. They dressed to look sexy for themselves. But others looked down on her for that. In â€Å"Pick One,† Matthews he has to make a decision that he would have to live with the rest of his life. Either he chose to be white or black. Matthews was both black and Jewish. Matthews’s mother was Jewish and his father was black. When he went to his first day of his new school, the kids looked at him. They made him chose black or white. In â€Å"My Two Lives,† Lahiri never got to forget about her second culture. Her parents reminded her every day. Social problems were a big deal for Cofer, Matthews, and Lahiri. They all went through some kind of social problems. In â€Å"Don’t Call Me Hot Tamale,† Judith Ortiz Cofer has social problems because of the way she dresses. People don’t want to talk to a person like her that dresses like that. One night she was having dinner at a nice hotel and after she ate, she went back to her room, and on her way a middle-aged man in a tuxedo stopped her and started singing her a song. In â€Å"Pick One,† David Matthews he has social problems at his new school. One day in the hallway, on his way to class some of his classmates stopped him. Some of the kids were asking him black or white? â€Å"What are you. † He had never heard that before. He went on about his business. Later that day, it was lunch time. He walked into the lunch room and he knew right then he had to pick. It was a very hard decision to make. He made the decision to be white because they looked the most like him, and had more in common with them. In â€Å"My Two Lives,† Jhumpa Lahiri was afraid her friends wouldn’t accept her because she had two cultures. But her parents wouldn’t let her forget about her other culture. She spoke English without a accent, she comprehended the language in a way her parents couldn’t. Because of her looks she did not attend Sunday school. Conflict of growing up was hard for all three of these people â€Å"Don’t Call Me a Hot Tamale,† Cofer, â€Å"Pick One,† Matthews, and â€Å"My Two Lives,† Lahiri all moved from a different country when they was young. They had to learn a new language, understand how to speak English, and make new friends. Even after they mastered the language people still looked at them differently. Judith Ortiz Cofer had to live with people looking at her for the way she dressed. But that was how her mother and grandmother dressed. David Matthews had to live with making a decision that would follow him the rest of his life. His mother was Jewish and his father was black. He had a lot of conflict while he was growing up. Jhumpa Lahiri parents wouldn’t let her forget about her other culture. Hey told her until they pasted away that her second culture would be in her life. Wealth and Happiness in Sense and Sensibility, by Jane Austen Essay

In the novel Sense and Sensibility, by Jane Austen, the Dashwood family is left with much less money after their father dies. When their cousin takes them in, they move to a new home and start their new life. In this time period money and social rank were the most important things. For most marriage has nothing to do with love, it is about gaining property, money or rank. This is why Elinor and Marianne’s, two of the Dashwood sisters, answers to the question: â€Å"what have wealth or grandeur to do with happiness?† (122) are so important. Elinor, the eldest Dashwood sister has all the characteristics of sense and responds, â€Å"grandeur has but little . . . but wealth has much to do with it† (122). She is implying that to be happy in life one must have money. Marianne seems to be the opposite of Elinor and embodies sensibility; she disagrees and claims that money â€Å"gives no real satisfaction† (122). This theme is seen throughout the novels wi th many characters specifically with the characters of the two Dashwood sisters, Edward, Mr. Willoughby and Colonel Brandon. These ideas influence the characters’ decisions and have many consequences. Elinor is said to be the character that has the most sense. She sharply contrasts her mother and her other sisters who are much more open with their feelings. Elinor is said to follow all the rules of society. Her beliefs and attitude are what makes it so surprising that she decides to marry a man such as Edward. Edward’s fortune depends entirely on his mother and he must stay in her good grace to inherit any money. At first Elinor’s belief that money has much to do with happiness makes sense. She has feelings for Edward who is the eldest son and therefore should inherit all the money. Ho... ...oose wealth she shows that the consequences are not always expected. Wealth and happiness was the common debate for most people at the time, and usually wealth would conquer happiness. Women, and even men, always wanted to â€Å"marry up† and climb the social ladder. Austen seems to convey the idea that one should marry someone for love but does put importance on money. Although most of her main characters marry for love she makes sure they have an income. Even the characters who claim that happiness is most important, such as Marianne, have a subconscious desire for men of wealth; and sensible characters such as Elinor hesitate at the idea of a marriage that would be made impossible by a lack of fortune. In the end love and happiness triumph over wealth and grandeur as Willoughby and Lucy lose the people they love and Marianne, Edward and Elinor live contently.

Hitler: in His Mind

Adolf Hitler was known to be a somewhat of monster, and a villian, which is true in the opinions of quite a few throughout history. What Hitler accomplished is astonishing, he was a brilliant man who knew how manipulate people and their way of thinking. But, what is most intriguing about Hitler is his personality and disturbed mind. Robert G. L. Wiate and his book titled The Psychopathis God: Adolf Hitler discusses Hitler and his personality triats that led to his outrageous ideas and actions.Waite as a author is able to not create a judgement of Hitler and his and write more about Hitler as a person and why he was the way he was. Hitler had many issues that disturbed his mind, such as, his past and childhood experiences, his enourmous amount of phobias and obsessions that consumed his mind, his sexual experiences and his behavior toward sex, and of course the most well known personal hatred toward Jews. Skipping around a little bit in Waite’s book, in Chapter 3, Waite discuss ed Hitler’s childhood and family history.Hitler’s childhood experiences led to his later on in life obsessions and phobias that were to consume his thinking. Waite is able to find the facts about his childhood to help explain how Hitler’s mind became warped into his way of thinking. Hitler’s childhood was full of death and, abandonment and bad habits. These experiences help explain why he became a vegetarian, his fascination with death and suicide as well as his phobia of being alone. All of these personality triats he became known for were due to his childhood experiences and lifestyle. In my opinion, Hitler’s psychological traits were due to his past.While a boy in Vienna, he was mocked and riduculed. As a child he was strickened with the death of his mother. These types of experiences can create major personality malfunctions later in life. In the first chapter, Waite discusses Hitler’s personality traits and his odd obsessions and daily way of living. One issue that would amaze any reader of Waite’s book is learning about Hitler and his actual ways of thinking rather than just what his factual actions as one of the greatest leaders and manipulator of all time. What is so astonishing is how someone ith such odd obsessions, such as the exact measurements of a body and proportion and positioning of the body, or his obsession with blood and his childish behavior as an adult. Wait’s evidence on Hitler’s manipulating skills is impressive. Waite decribes Hitler as being a man who would use â€Å"brotherhood† and shared experiences to convince people that what they were doing to the Jewish population was alright. In my opinion, Hitler’s psychological explanations for his behavoir is simple. He was a man who was set in his ways and when his way of how life should be ran and lived, he created another obsession in his mind to conquer that obstacle.Unfortunately for Hitler, his past experienc es led to his thinking to be irrational and almost manic like. He would use his hatred for his fathers death caused by use of tabacco, as a way to lead a clean life, which in reality is a habit to form, but unfortunately for Hitler, this â€Å"clean† way of living, lead to a more toxic and harmful environment for himself. Waite describes Hitler as using his bad memories as a child to fix what he felt was wrong with society, unfortunately for Hitler, his mind went out of control to be controlling, and â€Å"perfect†.As far as Hitler and women, he looked at them as their primary purpose to be looked at like a pet. He is quoted to have said â€Å"A woman must be a cute, cuddly, naive little thing—tender, sweet and stupid†, if you read into this statement Hitler made, he expected women to be like trained animals. His sexual experiences were very limited. He was intimate with six different women in his life five of which committed suicide. Hitler had a way of making the women feel inferior and if Adolf was not in their lives then they should not be living their lives at all.Waite describes his sexual and intimate life in contrast with his lack of a motherly figure throughout his entire life. Hitler felt that women were irrational and not capable of being a leader because of women having more of emotional personalities. Hitler’s sexual behavior toward women and sex in general does indicate that this side of his personality wa disturbed. Since reading Waite’s book about Adolf Hitler and his personality and psychological state, a perspective has been put into place for myself concerning Hitler and his terrible actions later in life. This book, puts into perspective just how disturbed and unstable Hitler really was.The question that comes to mind is how can such a manic, unstable, psychologically disturbed man, create such a following of people. The only conclusion that comes to my mind is sheer ignornace of Hitler’s cap abilities as leader. The people who supported and followed Hitler were people who benefitted from his actions and power. Waite is able to write a book about Hitler that is interesting and informative about Hitler’s psychological standpoint, which helps make you as the reader understand Hitler’s thinking and exactly how much of his decision making was based on his insanity and obsessions that consumed him.

Mediation †Foundations

The organization NAFAAS – is an acronym for the National Association of Fine and Applied Arts Students. It is a body that oversees the welfare of its members – the fine and applied arts students. It presents intricate issues as violation of student’s right to the department, organize social activities and exhibitions, and engage in educational tours and visits. It is also vested with the responsibility of raising and nurturing capable leaders to promote the â€Å"art† culture. The body is organized and governed by the following elected officers: The President, the Vice-President, Secretary General, Financial Secretary, the Treasurer, Director of Socials, Director of Sports and the Curator. The members are all duly matriculated students of the University. They pay an annual registration fee to the body and attend general meetings when they are summoned. The conflict A misunderstanding ensured when it was time to utilize some money from the body’s account. The financial secretary has issued about a thousand receipts and handed over five hundred payments to the treasurer. The treasurer recorded the given amount and the receipts. Unknown to the treasurer, the financial secretary went to change the figures to reflect a collection of a thousand payment and receipt. The president was to organize a welcome party for the association’s freshers only to discover that the money reflecting in the account differ greatly from the one recorded. An executive meeting was immediately summoned and the figures were laid based on the records. After much deliberation, the financial secretary and the treasurer were asked to account and pay for the loss otherwise they be sanctioned with expulsion. For precisely two weeks, they could not see eye-to-eye. This called for another meeting. Third party. The curator, supported by the two-third majority of the house, moved the motion for a meeting and a meeting day was fixed. The agenda of course was to discuss and if possible to resolve the differences between the two executive members. The session lasted for about two hours with heated debate and arguments. The meeting was adjourned without a reasonable progress on how best to resolve the conflict. A third party was agreed upon unanimously – the Patron of the association. He was actually the â€Å"best† to resolve the conflict as the parties involved [treasurer, financial secretary] respects him so much, besides he is the first patron of the association. The mediation At a pre-determined date and time, the mediator [the patron] and the two parties involved in the conflict met at the Association’s secretariat. Then and there, the patron listened patiently as they both recount their role in the incident. The mediator, being a trained one observed the starts and stops, the inconsistency of the financial secretary tactfully asked â€Å"why are the figures in correcting fluid?† the financial secretary by surprise responded â€Å"no †and later â€Å"I don’t know†. This question is supposed to have been directed to the treasurer being that he handles the recorded amount. The subsequent questions, responses and gestures were all geared towards the mediator trying to facilitate solution progress. He tried as much as possible to cool the tensed atmosphere – a situation where no progress can be actualized. Further issues were raised about the carelessness of the treasurer – for keeping important and formal documents at such trivial places. After much deliberation, a solution was finally reached. This was basically because of the status of and for the patron, otherwise the financial secretary already pre-determine he would negate all proposition that would subsequently lead to the findings – at least on a short term. The persuasion of the mediator [the patron] also did help matters. Emotion was deeply mixed with fact and the resultant effect was felt in the change of atmosphere. The financial secretary was finally willing to co-operate and let the cat out of the bag. He confessed to both the patron and the treasurer that he was deeply sorry for the incident and the conflict. Later on, he was strongly advised by the patron never to perpetrate such act. The treasurer and the patron forgave him. The sessions lasted for roughly two hours, thirty-five munites and were advised to go about their daily activities without any mistrust. They also agreed never to share with any other person [executives inclusive] how it was resolved or who actually was at fault. If I were the mediator, I would have made it a caucus interrogation. First, I would get background information from reliable sources about their attitudes and behaviors. This first hand research may or may not contribute towards knowing who actually was at fault or mediating them. After which I would personally interrogate them. I would facilitate solution progress by making relevant interrogations, delving deep into relevant issues that will sum up o the overall purpose – mediation. After all efforts made and I do not get to the route of the matter, I may if I have, decide to fund the repay for peace’s sake. If I do not have the money, I will at my possible best try to convince them to tell the truth. I will remind them of their original willingness to resolve the whole issue. Then proceed to advice and warn against future occurrence. This I believe will make them want to resolve it all. Macbeth is a story of honour, betrayal, treachery, greed, power and most importantly evil. The story is a tragedy, which from the start indicates there will not be many happy moments or joking. It is the story of a man corrupted by evil, (and his wife! ), and driven by his greed for success. There is murder and bloodshed throughout the play and its dark imagery portrays a disturbing image of those hungry for power. The atmosphere of the play is tense from the very first scene as we see three `weird sisters gathered together. This part of the play is set on a moor, which is a wasteland area. The weather also plays an important part in setting the scene and atmosphere; there is thunder and lightning. The setting of the moor and the stormy weather give an image of a deserted place in the middle of nowhere, giving a feeling of deep tension and anticipation to find out what is happening. In this scene, the language the witches use also makes them appear to be associated with evil, I come, Graymalkin! his is one of the witches answering what appears to be a call from someone or something, most probably from the underworld. Graymalkin is a grey cat, in the Elizabethan times cats were considered to be animals that were evil, they were usually associated with witches so the fact that the witches in the play are going when `Graymalkin calls makes them seem to be part of an evil or dark way of life. In the second scene of the first act there are not many pieces of text that can be interpreted into evil but there are lines of the play that do give us an impression of the lead character. This scene is set just fter a huge battle that took place in Scotland. A sergeant is describing to King Duncan how Scotland won the battle, he tells of the bravery of Macbeth and Banquo, two best friends and fighting partners, and how the increasing number of the enemy did not daunt them. Imagery of the battle is described to the King and the gory ways in which Macbeth killed the enemy are used, Till he unseamd him from the nave to the chaps, And fixd his head upon our battlements. Act 1 Scene 3 returns to the witches again and is a very dark scene. It opens with the witches gathering once more and telling ach other of the separate activities they have been up to. One witch told the others she had been killing swine, which doesnt give pleasant thoughts about these `women. The next story they tell shows a certain ruthlessness about the witches and shows they can be spiteful and vindictive over the most ridiculous things. They plan on drowning a sailor because his wife refused to give one of the witches a chestnut. When Macbeth and Banquo enter this scene the dark atmosphere is heightened by the witches as they gather around and start chanting, this would be quite confusing for the two friends and their puzzlement hows, What are these, So witherd and so wild in their attire, that look not like the inhabitants o the earth and yet are on `t? The witches then associate themselves with evil as they prophecies the futures of the two men, this scares Macbeth because they know who he is and their supernatural powers worry him. Further references to the witches in this scene by Banquo show that he believes they are part of something dark and evil. He calls the witches `instruments of darkness and when the first prophecy for Macbeth comes true he says, What! Can the devil speak true? In the fourth scene of the first act Macbeths downward spiral into a world of dark and evil and an atmosphere of shadow and mystery is present as Macbeth gives a small insight into his mind. He seems worried about the thoughts he has after the announcement that Malcolm, Duncans son will become heir to the throne. The idea of murder is playing on his mind and he seems unwilling to let those thoughts come through, Let not light see my black and deep desires. The dark side of Macbeth is fully released once Lady Macbeth is introduced into the play. In the letter she is reading from Macbeth e calls her his ` dearest partner in greatness. This certainly is the case near the beginning of the play as she is the most influential person in Macbeths life and the main reason for his downfall, but later on in the play she fades away with every passing moment and she seems tortured and tormented by what she has done until her ultimate demise. At this point, however, she knows that Macbeth will not consider taking the quickest way to the throne and so follows a very dark passage in which she calls upon demons and spirits to make her ruthless enough to drive Macbeth, Come, you spirits that tend on mortal thoughts! Unsex me here, And fill me from the crown to the toe top-full of direst cruelty. Straight after this scene we are presented with a great contrast as Duncan and his servants arrive at Macbeths castle. They talk of how pleasant the air is and how the castle is in a good location. To emphasise the darkness of the characters Macbeth and Lady Macbeth and what they plan on doing Duncan talks of how a house martin, a bird that normally nests in churches, approves of the castle because of its pleasant singing. This is a very ironic scene that heightens the atmosphere greatly. When Macbeth finally allows himself to think of the murdering of Duncan he has visions of how everyone would react to the death of their `Saintly king and realises that by killing him he would take a step up but this act of treachery would lead to his ultimate fall. This is a powerful scene that shows that Macbeth does have a conscience and a great sense of rationality. Sadly for Macbeth he was also greatly nai ve and he allowed himself to be corrupted by the nearly demonic Lady Macbeth as she curses him with all her effort and questions his manhood. She shows how cruel she would be by escribing the sickening things she would do for power, I have given suck, and know how tender `tis to love the babe that milks me: I would, while it was smiling in my face, Have pluckd my nipple from his boneless gums, And dashd his brains out, Had I so sworn as you to have done this. This is quite a disturbing and memorable image to that gives a great idea of what Lady Macbeths lust for power has driven her to. In the second act there is a great atmosphere of tension as anticipation to Duncans murder grows. Banquo seems on edge, similarly, so does Macbeth. The witches prophecies seem to have been n the minds of both men and has driven the two best friends apart. They both seem wary of each other and when in conversation it is very brief, with short answers and questions asked my both men. There is a bitter irony in this scene as Banquo hands over a gift from Duncan to Macbeth for Lady Macbeth; Duncan gives the diamond to Lady Macbeth with the name, `most kind hostess, not knowing it was she who planned his murder. Macbeths image of a good and honourable man is finally killed off in this part of the play as he prepares himself for the murder of Duncan. As Macbeth speaks to himself he uses dark and evil language that, ombined with his lack of sorrow and lack of compassion increases the sense of evil in the play up to this point. Macbeth is so engrossed with his search for power that he has visions of a dagger leading him to Duncans room and he shows some sort of sense of wicked humour when the signal bell is sounded. I go, and it is done; the bell invites me. Hear it not Duncan; for it is a knell that summons thee to heaven, or to hell. The atmosphere and sense of evil are made more so by the nest scene between Macbeth and Lady Macbeth. He still has blood on him from the murder of Duncan, which indicates the gruesome task he has erformed and leaves evidence of the crime that will haunt Lady Macbeth, at least, for the rest of the play. Macbeth lets the initial weakness he had come through again when he shows remorse for what he had done but this human side of him is quickly dismissed by Lady Macbeth whose ruthless ability allows her to take control of the situation. In any tragedy the atmosphere is bound to be very dark and frightful at times and Macbeth is no exception. The evil has been increasing rapidly with each passing scene and a welcome break in the play offers some amusing parts and allows the atmosphere to decrease lightly so everyone is not constantly tense and on the edge. After the short break from all the tension Duncans murdered body is then discovered and there is a frantic rush in the scene whilst everyone panics and are confused. Many people suspect Macbeth already for the murder. To make the murder seem like a totally unnatural occurrence of life there is a scene in which an Old Man talks to Ross. They discuss strange events that took place on the night of the murder and a part of Elizabethan superstition comes into play when the strange behaviour in the animal world is linked with the errible disaster in the human world. Tis unnatural, Even like the deed thats done. On Tuesday last, A falcon, towering in her pride of place, Was by a mousing owl hawkd at and killd. This is just one of the strange stories that make the murder of Duncan seem more unnatural and evil. Also, it was said that Duncans horses ate each other, which is a sickly thought to behold. After the murder of Duncan there is an air of suspicion surrounding Macbeth and he can sense that so he feels he must start abusing the power bestowed upon him by killing off anyone he feels is a threat to him. Macbeth seems to have lost control of all reasoning he may have once had and decides to try and kill off Banquo, at one time his best friend, and Banquos son, Fleance. This would end the prophecy the witches Banquo was told by the witches, as he would have no descendants who could be King if Macbeth killed him and his son. This plan of Macbeths shows how ruthless he can be and is no longer dependent on the leadership of his wife, who is sinking into a deeper depression and is going slowly going mental because she cant cope with what she has done. The play has a very dark feel to it now and there is no turning back or Macbeth. His character has changed into a power monger surrounded by his yes men and servants. He is desperate to know more about what the future holds for him and so he goes back to the witches. Macbeth demands they show him his future and he likes what he is told. The witches tell him that he has no need to fear any man woman born. This is a twisted truth though as we find out later when it is revealed Macduff was caesarean born. This meeting with the witches is a particularly dark scene with lots of other half-truths told to Macbeth by the witches. After this part of the play follows one of the most brutal acts Macbeth has ordered. This part may well be the darkest and most evil act in the play. After Ross has left Lady Macduff she is with her son. This is a warm family scene of tenderness between mother and son as she tries to explain about his father. Just then a messenger comes in to try and warn Lady Macduff that danger is approaching but the warning is t00 late as a murderer comes in and kills the child. This brutal act shows how far Macbeth is prepared to go and makes him appear to be a man to be taken seriously. This scene not only increase Macbeths image, it also increases the depths of dark and evil the lay has gone into and at this point the atmosphere is very heavy as the audience prepare for the final stages of the play. The final scene that contains any real parts of the past evil goings on is act 5 scene 1 in which we see Lady Macbeth being observed by a doctor and a gentlewoman. Lady Macbeth has been under a lot of stress and pressure and the deadly deeds she has been parts of finally caught up with her and have caused her to walk and talk in her sleep. She once declared that, A little water will clear us of this deed. When talking to Macbeth about the blood on him from Duncans murder. However, in her sleep she ays, All the perfumes of Arabia will not sweeten this little hand. She is reliving the murder of Duncan and cannot function properly. The evil spirits she once called upon to make her ruthless now seem to have abandoned her and she cannot cope with what has gone on in her life. Shortly after this the final battle is played out and Macbeth realises he cannot win once he finds out how Macduff was born, yet he refuses to give in and goes into the fight at least trying to keep what little dignity and respect he may have. A television host defending someone against the charge of â€Å"being opportunistic.† The host argued, â€Å"everyone should be opportunistic because it would be stupid to throw away opportunities.† The problem in both examples is that the word opportunistic is being used without regard to the word’s established negative connotations. opportunistic: Taking immediate advantage, often unethically, of any circumstance of possible benefit. (Merriam-Webster) The OED defines opportunistic as â€Å"involving, displaying, or characterized by opportunism.† and opportunism as â€Å"the practice or policy of exploiting circumstances or opportunities to gain immediate advantage with the implication of cynicism or lack of regard to principles.† This misunderstanding of the negative connotation of opportunistic is apparently widespread. An investing site has as its tagline: â€Å"Emphasizes an opportunistic, value-oriented and risk-controlled approach to investments.† A wrestler preparing for a match says, â€Å"I dont want to think too much in there. I want to be more opportunistic and let it flow.† A headline on another investment site exclaims, â€Å"The Intel of NFC: One ‘Ground Floor’ Stock Every Opportunistic Investor Should Snap Up Today.† Other sites, many of them having to do with antisocial behavior, employ opportunistic in its more usual sense. Bullieslack self-discipline, are egotistic, exploitative,  rapacious, opportunistic, driven, reckless, and callous. Flash memory is erasable memory chips e.g. USB, SD card, memory stick etc. Processing: Examples of processing software: audio editing programmes, movie maker, video editors Transmitting and receiving: Buses and ports are used for transmitting and receiving. Buses are connections between CPU and other parts. Ports are sockets that allow an external device to be installed. E.g. e-mail is transmitting and receiving mails. Displaying Printer, monitor speakers etc. most monitors are displayed in pixels. Number of pixels on the screen can be adjusted. Planning, deigning and implementation Understanding the problem This is the first stage of developing a system. It involves identifying the problem that needs to be solved and determining the requirements of the new system through surveys, interviews, analysing existing system, investigation, research etc. Draw up a project plan, specifying who, what how, when; consisting grant charts, schedules, dataflow diagrams, journals, plans etc. Making decisions Determine the feasibility (is it possible) of this new system, analysing potential solutions and makes a recommendation. Improve The Quality Of Basic Education Education Essay On the first day of Christmas my true love sent to me Christmas is the season of sharing. In this event, we often give gifts to our family, relatives, friends and other people close to our hearts. We also receive gifts from them. But what is the best gift our true love would give to us? Most of the time, our parents would say that we should study hard because education is the only thing they could give to us. That is the reason why our parents are working hard, to give us education, because it is the most important gift we could have. It is a powerful tool that would help us a lot in dealing with everyday situations. A gift one cannot steal away from us and a tool money cannot afford to buy. We could not easily get it anywhere, it is something we should earn and achieve. The attainment of education is like setting up a Christmas tree, it takes time and we should exert extra effort and determination to achieve it. We deserve to have the best gift. We are worthy to have a quality tool. Our country needs to strengthen the very foundation of education- basic education. But how could we have the best gift? How could we improve the quality of basic education? Basic education, as Ive said earlier, is the very foundation of education. It is where one will spend his developing years and it is important to spend it in a quality system. It is the preparatory stage for higher education. That is why I am happy to promote adding two years in basic education (primary and secondary level of education). In this proposal, we would have additional one year for elementary (Grade 7) and another for secondary (5th Year) in public schools. Let me discuss some issues about this system. First, we would have a better quality of basic education. Because of two additional years, there is more time for learning. In this new and better system, we are not speeding up and cramming the span of time we could learn, but we are widening it to give space for new subjects and improved curriculum. In this system, the quality would be improved by rationalizing the contents of present subjects and by adding new subjects timely needed by the students. We cannot deny the fact that there is a necessity for us to improve basic education. We would have more time in learning and we are not going too fast unprepared. We would have improved curriculum and subject contents. Second, this proposal aims to promote the welfare of our struggling brothers and sisters. If this proposal is not for them then why the recommendation is adding two more years in basic education? According to The 1987 Constitution of the Philippines, Article XIV, Section 2, Number 2, The State shall establish and maintain a system of free public education in the elementary and high school levels. So, why not establish two more years in pre-university education? The state would not have any responsibility to pre-university education, by the way. It is because the government is really trying its best to serve the people. Yes, this proposal may have an effect to our countrymen, but it is worth the perseverance and hard work. It is not intended to give them another burden, but it aims to improve their lives. Only incidental costs like transportation and food allowance are the concerns of the families, because basic education is free. And to address these concerns, the government is reall y willing to help them through conditional cash transfers wherein underprivileged families would get a subsidy from the government with due respect to latters conditions. Third, this proposal would lift the burden given to universities and colleges. According to Edilberto C. de Jesus of Philippine Daily Inquirer, Our own Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and the Philippine Task Force on Education conceded that the 10-year basic education cycle poses problems for our tertiary institutions and their graduates. In college, there are minor subjects and this is the result of problems in basic education. Instead of having the more important subjects in college, the college students still need to comply with minor subjects. Let us put De La Salle University -Dasmarià ±as (DLSU-D) as an example. In DLSU-D, we need to take basic English, Filipino, Math, Science, and Physical Education subjects. Well in fact, we could have these subjects in the additional years of proposed basic education system. Now, there is more time for them to focus on the subjects of their chosen fields. The problem caused by the present system would be addressed properly and not sho uldered by tertiary institutions and the students. Fourth, after graduation, the students would be in working age. Let us do the math. Sixteen years old, which is the typical age of students after high school graduation, plus 2 years from the proposal is equal to 18 years of age, the working age! This good intended effect would greatly influence the job requirement set by the majority of companies to job applicants. Usually, the job requirement is at least in second year college. But with this proposal, the scenario would change. Since the students would graduate at 18, the minimum employment requirement would be at least a high school graduate. Thus, this proposal is really beneficial to the graduates of new basic education system and those who plan or need to work right after high school due to certain circumstances. Fifth, this proposal is really practical. The proposal is a step by step process. It would take some time to have its full effect. The implementation of this new system would be every year. The Grade 1 students would have the new system and improved curriculum. After the succeeding year both Grades 1 and 2, would have the system. After another year Grades 1, 2 and 3 would have it, so on and so forth, until it would have its full effect up to 5th Year high school students. Why I do say this proposal is practical? This proposal is practical because there is no immediate need for the funds, Grade 7 and 5th year students are non-existent during the first six years and eleven years of implementation. Since, the proposal would take some time; the government still has the capacity to address different problems we have in our present system. The government would have the time in preparing for implementation years of improved basic education system. There is enough measure to solve the proble ms like lack of classroom, books, teachers, public schools and also the issue of dropout rate. There is enough time for us! We could build the classrooms and additional schools needed, train the teachers efficiently and process enough learning materials. It is worth the patience for the betterment of basic education system. Last, this proposal would let the system comply with international standards of education. According again to Edilberto C. de Jesus of Philippine Daily Inquirer, In 2009, Education Committee of Unescos Philippine National Commission noted that among 155 Unesco member countries, only Djibouti, Angola and the Philippines still fall below what has become the international norm. This is an issue we need to address because there is an arising concern for our Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs). Our Filipino graduates are deterred by our present system with 10 year basic education system. Their global competence is at risk because other countries do not acknowledge the degrees that our graduates attained. If other countries would stop or doubt employing our OFWs, it would have a huge negative impact in our present economic condition. So, this proposal would help our countrys economy to grow continually and/or to be stable. By complying with global standards, the employment chances would incr ease for our OFWs and other Filipino professionals which would mutually benefit our economy and countrymen. Having two additional years in basic education is idealistic but it is really workable. Education is the most important gift could have. But we deserve to have best gift. We are worthy to have a quality tool. We need to strengthen the very foundation of our country through this plan which aimed to solve the arising problems from our present basic education system. The implementation of this plan would take some time like setting up a Christmas tree, we would have a hard time arranging and decorating it but after we are done, we would see its real beauty, we would feast our eyes with its glittering lights and we could say that it is worth it. We could always start doing something for the betterment of our education sector. Waiting for the progress to come by addressing the problems of present system is good. But it is better to take some practical actions to solve these problems while waiting. We could, we would and we should have the best and quality education. At the end of the day, this blessing would be achieved. That is why I am happy to propose adding two years in basic education.

Elizabeth Cady Stanton and the Women's Rights Movement   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Elizabeth Cady Stanton was born November 12, 1815, in Johnstown, New York. She was the fourth of six children. Later she would meet and marry Henry B. Stanton, a prominent abolitionist. Together they would have seven children. Although Elizabeth never went to college she was very learned in Greek and mathematics. During her life, Elizabeth was a very important person to the women's rights movement. This paper will present to you the difficulties she encountered and her major contributions.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Nothing is easy when you are trying to change the opinion of the world. In the nineteenth century it was only harder if you were a woman. Elizabeth Stanton not only faced opposition from the outside world but also from those closest to her. After her only brother died she tried to please her father by studying and doing the things that her brother had done. Her father's response was that he wished she had been a boy. Her high hope of working with her husband to abolish slavery was shattered when she was not allowed to enter into the conventions. She, as a woman, was told to keep silent and to do her work quietly. Who better than her husband, who champions the rights of black people, should understand and applaud her work. However, that was not the case. During the Seneca Falls convention that she had organized, her husband left town rather than witness here propose the idea of women's suffrage to the group. When she lectured she was often booed and hissed at. She suffered much at the hands of the media. The only support that she ever received was from her fellow suffragists. This did not stop her from continuing her work and becoming an integral part to the early women's rights movement.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  With seven children and an entire household to manage, Elizabeth Cady Stanton somehow found time to help found the women's rights movement. Her contributions were considerable. After attending an abolitionist convention in London she decided to concentrate her work on the rights of women. Her first cause was that of Divorce. She believed that people ought to be able to obtain a divorce on any grounds. She also championed the married women's property act. Perhaps one of her greatest contribution she had was the Seneca Falls convention. There she helped draft the Declaration of Sentiments. This was a list of twelve items that were unfair to women. The twelfth, concerning women's right to vote, would probably have not been included if it was not for Elizabeth.

Suppose you are the network manager for Central University, a medium-size university with 13,000 students. The university has 10 separate colleges (e.g., business, arts, journalism), 3 of which are relatively large (300 faculty and staff members, 2,000 students, and 3 buildings) and 7 of which are relatively small (200 faculty and staff, 1,000 students, and 1 building). In addition, there are another 2,000 staff members who work in various administration departments (e.g., library, maintenance, finance) spread over another 10 buildings. There are 4 residence halls that house a total of 2,000 students. Suppose the university has the 128.100.xxx.xxx address range on the Internet. How would you assign the IP addresses to the various subnets? How would you control the process by which IP addresses are assigned to individual computers? You will have to make some assumptions to answer both questions, so be sure to state your assumptions. At the bottom of this response I have added a crude IP subnet scheme that will be a good start for Central University. Since the university already has a Class B IP range established, I tried to break it down as even as I could while still leaving room for future growth in every area. My first assumption is that every building has sufficient routers, switches, and network fabric to handle the traffic on this scale. I wanted to keep the faculty and staff on separate subnets for privacy and to keep frivolous student traffic off their subnets. These subnet breakdowns are not perfect by any means. I tried to use a Cisco tool to create a better breakdown, but I can’t figure out how to use it. If I were actually a paid network admin, I would have better software to accomplish this. Anyway, I would use DHCP servers to assign individual IPs to alleviate the issue of having to assign static IPs to people. This would help with the administration of constantly changing numbers of nodes and their specific locations.

Philosophy Report

Compare, contrast, and evaluate Plato and Mill on the relation between the individual and society. Two of the greatest minds in intellectual thought, Plato and Mill living in relatively different times, they both shared the same issues and concerns but with very distinct perspectives. Plato believed that freedom was justice in the soul while Mill was defending freedom within a democracy. Is one freedom better than another freedom? Plato tries to show that individual justice mirrors political justice. He believed that the soul of every individual has a three part structure interchangeable to the three classes of society.Plato, being an idealist, he believed that his philosophers should be impeccable with knowledge. If â€Å"performing abortions† is morally offensive- in a Platonic society that debate wouldn’t happen, because it would be outright outlawed. So how would we know that it isn’t moral? We would never know. And THAT is the kind of suppression Mill disagr ees with- isn’t finding out the truth more important than morality? Or is ignorance better than understanding? Mill’s views in the individual and society completely differ from Plato’s. Mill’s view in the individual has the experience and environment that Plato considers unimportant.Mill also believed that a human could develop full potential only by offering the opportunity to define true ability in an individual. He was completely against forcing opinions from one group onto the other. It was doing injustice to the individual. Mill was for the people. He understood society’s struggles when it came to dangerous work stations to where the workers would be paid little to nothing at all. It was an injustice to them to be working so hard and not being appreciated for how hard of an effort workers put into their job. Freedom surely didn’t exist there and Mill strived for that to change.Virtuous and expert rules are possible if and only if the ru lers may be philosophers. Plato absolutely believed normal everyday people had no way in becoming a great leader because only intelligence and expertise is only found in Philosophers. He had the perfect picture of an ideal ruler. He also strictly believed one’s abilities portray the certain opportunities given to the philosopher while Mill believed in the complete opposite from that. Each person is naturally suited for a certain task. If you are gifted with intelligence, Plato believes it shouldn’t be put to waste.For example, you are better off being a Doctor than being a construction worker. â€Å"The good city† is possible when â€Å"experts† are in charge of it. Only two worlds existed in Plato’s Theory of the Forms: The visible world and the intelligible world. Knowledge comes down to having knowledge of the forms. You cannot know what is false. Opinion/belief cannot ever be wrong. Knowledge is about what is real or if you have facts to prove whether it’s true or false. Ignorance is separate from pinion but is much clearer than ignorance. It’s part truth, part ignorance.Mill thinks we should be free to do what we want, unless it doesn’t cause harm to society. It would be then, that kind of freedom should be restricted but when can these freedoms be restricted? Should it come to physically harming an individual to their brink of suicide? Physical harm and verbal harm play two different roles in society but I definitely believe are both dangerous. On Liberty, Mill makes funs of Plato that anyone can have an ideal society. Mill also defines justice in a variety of ways before making it into one whole thing.

What annoys me about the British Weather

British Weather, three words: unpredictable, torturous and unbearable. We have all experienced the excruciatingly painful rain drops plummeting full speed onto our hoods or umbrella’s, haven’t we? Well we live in England of course. As you prepare to leave home, you take one quick glance out of the window, and you see the blazing red hot sun shining, you can actually feel the warm radiation hitting your skin and the last thing on your mind is to remember to take an umbrella or a jacket with you just in case. As you casually walk across the street to the bus stop you have an unexpected encounter with one of your ‘footy mad’ friends who just talks about football. After he bores you to death and then finally leaves things get one notch worse, out of nowhere, completely unexpected you feel this cold spit on your face, few seconds later you endure a torrential torrent of rain blasting onto your body within ten seconds you are drenched in water, unfortunately this has happened to most of us. This diabolical problem needs a solution and the weather forecast is not it. The arrogant weather who miserably dictates us the weather is entirely useless and unreliable. As a BBC clone he talks in that Standard English tone, as you listen you understand that all the information he is presenting to you is all gibberish. The next day you find out that the weather ‘somehow’ turns out to be the complete opposite of what the weather forecast predicted yesterday. So there you have it, the met office should just give up on forecasting the weather because they are completely hopeless. Another point is not the sudden change of weather but the despicably messed up seasons. You never know what you are going to get with British weather it constantly is on the move, there is cold weather in the summer and it’s warm in the winter, this year alone the snow is overdue it’s been expected and hasn’t arrived YET. From the bottom of my heart I would like to tell all of you people who want to visit England that it is not a holiday destination, at all especially in terms of weather. What you will get is not a relaxing, sunny holiday, but mainly an endless pour of rain which blasts on to you like a cannon of water, if you want to experience true English weather then book your tickets in winter as it might be very warm. Britain never inevitably fails to disappoint or leave you feeling in utter despair, whether it is in sport in their terrible world cup campaign or in this case when you want beautiful weather for a special day and it ends up disappointing you. It is always important to always be prepared with a brolly or a coat even if you end up looking like an utter fool in a winter coat like you’re going hiking in the arctic in the hottest day of the year. Cold weather comes natural to the UK and from past experience I get use to this sort of climate as if it was second nature. One of the worst moments is when you have to a spend a depressing Monday of your holidays locked inside at home, bored and in a dull displeasing atmosphere starring obliviously out of the window at the grey, dismal sky. Where droplets of rain are rolling down the window, and you can hear the thunderous cascading rain hitting the roof. At this moment in time you are hopelessly hoping that eventually this annoying rainy weather will just stop! What really ticks me off is that the winter weather causes many disruptions to the public transport system, not that it was the most efficient method of travel anyway. It also causes many businesses and schools to close early which plays mostly in favour for school students. Roads are blocked by the snow and this irritates drivers because they are blinded by the fog, this is disastrous for the economy apparently, because Britain is always caught unprepared even though we experience snowy and foggy conditions almost every year. In summary: don’t even bother to listen to the weather forecast as they talk complete nonsense, and make sure your prepared at least take a coat because it could start raining after all we do live in England.

During his first term, however, there was a rebellion by forty students who were all expelled. Although Galois was not involved in the rebellion, the severe attitude taken by the school against those students left an impression on his already developing political outlook. By his third year, he became bored with the classical studies and his interests were soon absorbed by Legrendre’s Geometry, a book understood by very few. He regularly failed his exams and was asked to repeat the year due to poor work in rhetoric. He faced severe criticisms from his rhetoric teachers and soon his own family started to think of him as strange. February 1827 marked a turning point in his life, as he entered his very first mathematics course, taken by M. Vernier. Typical reports from his school described him as bizarre, singular, original and closed. His passion for mathematics dominated him and his director of studies advised his parents to let him concentrate only on mathematics and forgo all others. His time in school apart from mathematics was described as a waste of time â€Å"as he did nothing more than torment his teachers and overwhelm himself with punishments†. However, M. Vernier reported him as an intelligent student with zeal and success (Rothman, 1982). M. Vernier constantly implored Galois to work more systematically, an advice which he ignored. Galois attempted the entrance examination to Ecole Polytechnique a year early and without the required course in mathematics.
